Pensnett: The Lookout Project
Who we are…
We are a team of youth and community workers who live and work in the Pensnett area. The main focus of the Lookout Project is detached youthwork (meeting young people on the streets), but we also helped with student support at Pensnett High School (recently tragically closed), run group work sessions and run a weekly football session (amongst other things). We believe prayer changes things, so also spend time praying into the area.

ONE…
Since 2006, the Lookout Project has run a summer social action week called Our Neighbourhood Extended (ONE). ONE involves local young people and volunteers helping the community in a practical way, spending some time together doing various youth activities and having a great time. Social action could involve gardening for elderly or disabled residents, gardening in local community spaces, clearing and tidying paths or (for the first time in 2009) performing a dance or drama at a local care home. In the afternoons there are various sport and art & craft activities for people to get involved in and the whole week finishes with a celebration Funday with a barbeque, bouncy castles, football tournament and much more! ONE 2010 was a great success, with everything going ahead despite the efforts of the British weather to rain everything off on the last day!
The Base…
In April The Lookout Project was given permission to lease the former Pensnett Estate Office to use as a base for their community and youth work. The Base gives access to IT and internet facilities (e.g. for paying bills online, job searching, working on CVs etc), provides a space for small group activities and is a place where it’s easy to meet with and chat to young people over a coffee. We're currently open three afternoons a week but hope to extend this when we have people to staff it. If you're around the area, please feel free to pop in for a cuppa!
